Damier

The Damier line, introduced in 1888, predates the Monogram and was designed by Louis Vuitton and his son, Georges Vuitton. This design was inspired by the traditional Japanese "Ichimatsu" checkered pattern, and it was named "Damier," the French word for checkerboard. The beige and dark brown checkered pattern is a defining feature, exuding a refined sense of luxury within its simplicity. At the time, the Damier pattern was used on Louis Vuitton’s trunks and was loved for many years.

In 1996, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Monogram, the Damier line was reintroduced. Its simple yet elegant aesthetic captivated many women, and what was initially planned as a limited release became a permanent staple in the Louis Vuitton collection.
